Double Rainbow– Light

Light is as essential to the eyes as air is to the lungs. It is the foundation of all life on Earth, and 90% of the light that enters our eyes serves more than just vision; it also regulates the autonomic nervous system through non-visual neurological pathways. Light directly affects the brain via the eyes. When exposed to the right type of light at the right time of day, it can positively influence the endocrine system, autonomic nervous system, sleep quality, mood regulation, and cognitive function. However, improper exposure to light can lead to negative health consequences.

Light has been used in medicine since ancient times, and over the past century, scientists have made significant strides in understanding its biological effects. In the 1920s, research into light’s impact on health began to emerge, highlighting how different light frequencies affect our biology. Full-spectrum light, in particular, has been extensively researched and is commonly used to treat conditions like seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Studies have shown that various light frequencies serve different roles at the cellular and molecular levels, providing benefits such as reducing inflammation, increasing cellular energy by stimulating ATP production in mitochondria, boosting nitric oxide levels in the blood, and strengthening the immune system. Conversely, research also reveals that artificial light and night shift work can have harmful effects on our health.

Double Rainbow-Nutrition

Along with Syntonics and Lens based therapy,  we also provide basic nutritional recommendations to all our patients. Over years, we find that nutrition support work synergistically with vision care program and enhance each other’s effects.

Although the brain makes up only 5% of our body weight, it consumes 25% of our total energy. Among brain functions, vision requires the most energy. As soon as you wake up and open your eyes, your brain starts to consume a significant amount of energy to process information that get through the eyes and begin your day.

Since the eyes are a part of the brain, what’s good for the eyes is also good for the brain.  Different colors of the food contains different nutrients. Our body need all nutrition to function properly.

Optometrists are specifically trained to recommend nutrition for eye health, particularly in cases of dry eyes and macular degeneration. The most extensive government funded research on nutrition has focused on age-related eye diseases. Known as (AREDS/AREDS2 study). The studies focus on Age Related Macular Degeneration and Cataract.  We also collaborate closely with other professionals, such as naturopathic doctors and functional nutritionists, to address further nutritional needs.

While we don’t promote any specific diet, we believe that a balanced, plant-based diet is essential for the successful outcome of our treatments. Most time, when the system is significantly imbalanced, we need to recommend specific supplements before transitioning to a healthy balance diet to improve nutrient absorption for better outcome.

Our office is a proud partner with Physician Recommended Nutraceuticals (PRN), MacuHealth, and Juice Plus.

PRN and MacuHealth are trusted companies that create nutritional supplements to support eye care patients. Their products are backed by studies that benefit those with dry eyes and macular health. Compared to store-bought brands, their supplements are highly bioabsorbable and bioavailable.
